Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most auspicious and religious occasions awaited by Muslims all over the world. It is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic Calendar. Eid means “Recurring Happiness or Festivity”. The festival begins after the crescent moon is seen. Eid-ul-Fitr implies breaking of the fast time frame which goes on for a month. Eid is a blessing of Allah and its purpose is to help Muslims come closer to each other, feel and spread joy after completing the fast of all month and symbolize unity and brotherhood.
And so that you may complete the number, the magnify Allah guiding you may give thanks (that means Takberaat recommend on Day of Fitr). (Al Quran)
Eid brings national holidays celebrated for three days. It is also known as Choti Eid or Sweet Eid. Sunnahs to be followed on this day are as follows:
• Wake up early in the morning.
• Offer Salat-ul-Fajr (daily prayers).
• Take a bath after Fajr and wear ittar, perfume, or cologne.
• Brush your teeth to maintain self-hygiene.
• Dress up with the best affordable clothes available.
• Eat odd numbers of dates before proceeding for Salat-ul-Eid.
• Pay Sadqa Fitr before Salat-ul-Eid. (As it is mandatory for every single person to give Fitra before Eid Prayers)
• Go to the prayer ground early and listen to the Eid Sermon (Khutba).
• Do Zikar on the way to Eid ground.
• Get in and out from two separate routes from the prayer ground.
• Embrace people present in the Eid Ground or Mosque after the Eid prayer is over.
It is the day when Muslims assemble in Eid Ground or Mosque wholeheartedly and pray for forgiveness, and strength of faith. Eid prayer is performed in the morning hours, and without any doubt, it is the finest display of Islamic solidarity where Allah showers His Divine Mercy upon Muslims. The sight of rows upon rows of the faithful standing solemnly prostrating the One and Only, The Almighty Allah gives a marvelous spectacle to behold. Its significance is purely spiritual.
It is the day when Muslims thank Allah for giving them the will, strength, and endurance to observe fast and obey his commands.
It is the Day of Harvest as Allah (S.W.T) rewards abundantly to those who have followed Allah’s path with sincerity, truthfulness, worship, and harmony. All the faithful believers reap the fruit of their good deeds and the night before the Eid, which is the blessed and reward achieving night and is called as Lailatul Jaiza (i.e. The Night of Reward) when Allah is at the closest among all the days, it is deemed extremely important.
Allah says to Malaa‘ikah that for their having fasted for the whole month for their having stood before me in the prayers by night I have granted to their reward. Oh, Muslims ask now of me for I swear by my honor and by my greatness that whatever you shall ask now of me I shall grant you. (Al Quran 3:56)
It is the Day of Forgiveness as Muslims assemble in the congregation of the day wholeheartedly, and forget conflicts with their neighbors, family, relatives, keeping this in mind that Allah (S.W.T) has forgiven them in His infinite Mercy.
After returning from the Eid Prayers, Muslims enjoy Eid in different ways. On the Day of Eid, women cook delicious and scrumptious food for the whole family. Biryani, Pilao, Qorma, Sheer Khurma, Kheer, Vermicellis are the top most dishes prepared in every home. Seniors give money (Eidi) to the juniors, women apply Henna, children enjoy swings, rides installed near their homes or go to Amusement Parks, family members visit their relatives’ homes followed by gifts, and delicious meals. People exchange gifts, messages, Eid Cards, phone calls to show their love and gratitude.
People at the workplace exhibit gathering to show the team’s unity and success.
On this day we should not forget the departed souls who are no more with us. Just remember them in your payers preferably should go to their last resting place to offer Prayers and Supplications for them.
And also smoothen your connection with those who are deprived of Eid’s happiness i.e. the poor, the needy, the orphans, the widows, the maids.
Quran says:
And we made them leaders, guiding (men) buy commands, and we sent inspiration to good deeds to establish regular prayers, and to practice regular charity.
May Allah (S.W.T) reward all of us for our virtues and good deeds, bring peace, prosperity, laughter, and happiness to our lives.
Wishing A Very Happy Eid Mubarak to all of you.
