It takes a kind heart and a mindful soul to understand the emptiness in the lives of the ones that need to be taken care of, to be heard even when they don’t reach out for help and the unconditional support that they so eagerly needed, the spirit of giving to others in need has been one of the firm pillars over which our societal structure stands strong, and it is also one of the fundamental teachings of our beloved religion.
One of the 99 names of Allah described in the Holy Quran ( Al-Kareem – کریم ) which translates to “Generous”. The kind of emphasis Islam has on the subject of generosity can be understood not only by the countless times it has been talked about in the Holy Quran but the art of giving to others was personified by the most generous person to ever walk on the face of the Earth, our beloved
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet’s upright character, calm, and kind aura made him an example to follow for all the Muslims.
Allah (S.W.T) says in the Quran: “And verily you, O Muhammad, are on an exalted standard of character.” (Quran 68:4).
The noble act of generosity is observed more frequently among the Muslims all over the world in Ramadan, as in this Holy Month we observe fast from dusk till dawn which creates a sense of awareness and compassion, not only about the hunger but also about the hardships of the poor and underprivileged, which makes us realize the fact that all the wealth and worldly possessions Allah (S.W.T) was too kind to bless us with, were merely a loan which we are obligated to share with our fellow Muslims, which is why Zakat (defined as the obligatory charity by Allah S.W.T) is one of the forth fundamental pillars of Islam.
Being a kind human is the prerequisite of being a good Muslim, and there is nothing more appreciable by Allah(S.W.T) than having a pure, and compassionate heart which feels pleased to help others in need, feeds the hungry, and provides financial aid to the poor.
Let us all ask Allah (S.W.T) to soften our hearts, and create compassion for those who need our support, which would not only create harmony among our fellowmen in this world but will be beneficial for us on the Day of Judgment.
