“How many times in a day do you say Alhamdullilah?”
Once? Twice? and sometimes you might even forget to say Alhamdullilah. Why?
It maybe because you don’t think you are happy. But the question is why are you unhappy?
You don’t have the latest model car or a big house or you don’t have expensive toys like your friends.. and the list goes on, right??
Now I’ll tell you what you have.
You have two eyes to read and see the beauty of nature, you have a nose to smell food and fragrance, you can eat the food of your choice, you can do your work by yourself, you have a complete family and loving parents and siblings. And there are many blessings which you don’t even consider, but they carry a lot of importance. As it is mentioned in the Quran,
“And if you should count the favor of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, mankind is [generally] most unjust and ungrateful.” [Qu’ran: Chapter 14, Verse 34]
One day I realized this thing when I was in the waiting room of my University I saw a girl who was blind she sat next to me while sitting she said “Alhamdullilah” loudly. I was shocked but I remained quiet. Then after a few moments, she took out her lunchbox from the bag and opened it. There was just a half slice of bread which was dry – but she again said “Alhamdulillah”. When she said “Alhamdullilah” the third time, I couldn’t control myself out of curiosity. I asked her why she is saying “Alhamdullilah even though she wasn’t too far, she was unable to see anything, she didn’t have fresh food. She just smiled and replied.
“Allah (SWT) has said:
‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.” (Surah Ibrahim Ayat 7)
Gratitude actually means to appreciate whatever you have and to be thankful to the one who grants you blessings. Gratitude is a beautiful way of acknowledging Allah (SWT) and it provides a wonderful opportunity to earn rewards in this life and hereafter. Gratitude brings happiness in our life by helping us to understand the fact that whatever happens with us, it’s better for ourselves and it’s because of Allah(SWT’s) will. That’s why I am happy and satisfied with all my imperfections.
There are three ways to show your gratitude.
Gratitude of Heart
Our intentions should be good for all creations of Allah (SWT)
Gratitude of tongue
We should say Alhamdullilah frequently and express gratitude to Allah for all the blessings we have.
Gratitude of Limbs
We should show gratitude by using our external senses. We shouldn’t involve in evil deeds – instead, do good with, and for all the creations of Allah (SWT).
Gratitude is mentioned in the Holy Quran on seventy different occasions. Allah (SWT) loves Grateful people. Our beloved Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) also practiced gratitude by worshiping Allah (SWT). He has commanded us to be grateful to Him as He has provided us uncountable blessings. So we should be grateful every time for everything He has blessed us with. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) says: “Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favors on you) and never be ungrateful to Me” (Quran, 2:152).
