Ramadan is the month of blessings, sacrifice, and devotion. This month brings a chance to purify our hearts. In Arabic, the word ‘Ashra’ means “Ten”. The middle ten days (The Second Ashra) of Ramadan reflects the days of forgiveness. Allah The Almighty has blessed us with the month of Ramadan so that we can strengthen our connection with Him.
In these ten days of Ramadan we should ask Allah (S.W.T) for his forgiveness and mercy. As human beings, we have maximum chance to commit sins, but this Ashra motivates us to repent over the sins which we commit. In this Ashra all those deeds that invoke the Forgiving quality of Allah are undertaken. In this regard, the following deeds can work the best.
o Don’t Miss Obligatory Prayers
o Read and Recite the Holy Quran
o Do as much Tasbeeh as possible
o Offer Taraweeh
It was narrated that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A) said. “The Messenger of Allah said:
‘Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous sins.”
Asking for the forgiveness from Allah (S.W.T) can help us to achieve peace. We will only be able to achieve comfort in times of problems, if we develop the correct relation with Allah (S.W.T).
At the beginning of Surah Baqarah, Allah The Almighty has mentioned the story of Hazrat Adam (A.S). Allah The Almighty had told Hazrat Adam (A.S) and his wife not to eat the fruit of the particular tree, but Shaitan misguided them, they fell into his trap, and ate it. As they realized their mistake, they called out to Allah (S.W.T).
Translation: “Oh our Lord, we have wronged ourselves and if you do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will be among the losers”
So Allah (S.W.T) says: “We forgave them”, as Allah The Almighty calls himself At-Tawwab (The One Who keeps on forgiving again and again), and Ar-Raheem (The Especially Merciful).
The lesson we have learned from this story is that we are humans and we make mistakes, but the best of us are those who repent. To strengthen our relationship with Allah (S.W.T), we must try our best not to fall back.
Allah The Almighty is keen to forgive us, He says in the Quran:
Say “O my servants who have transgressed against themselves by sinning! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful”
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), the most pious and fearful person, was the most repentant; he used to seek the forgiveness of Allah (S.W.T) more than 70 times a day.
Seeking forgiveness turns our sins into good deeds, and we become closer to Allah (S.W.T) than we were before, as Allah (S.W.T) loves those who repent.
May Allah soften our hearts and make us among those who turn to him in repentance and allow us to return to Him with a pure heart! Ameen.
