“Your beliefs don’t make you a better person; your behavior does.”
This quote always leads me to think about what I believe, does my behavior reflect that or not? I believe, if your actions do not match up with the beliefs that come out of your mouth then either you are lying to the world or lying to yourself.
There are some of the questions that we must ask ourselves:
● If you believe in kindness, do you always act kindly?
● If you believe in honesty, do you always work honestly?
● If you believe in faith, do you live by it?
● If you believe in love, do you always spread the love?
● If you believe in respect, do you always respect others?
● If you believe in gratitude, do you always feel grateful?
“So your faith does not define who you are, but your actions do”
It is mentioned in Surah-e-Baqarah that:
“Do you command people to do good things while you forget yourselves though you are the one who reads the book of Allah (The Quran)”
This verse emphasizes that if you tell people to do something good then first ensure that you also implement the same thing. When we read The Book of Allah (The Holy Quran), so we should not only look through it, but we should read it slowly and understand each verse in it. The life of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) is a role model for every person in this world.
Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A) reported on the occasion of Hujjat-ul-Wida our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said:
“I am leaving two things among you. You will never deviate from the right path. These are the Holy Quran and my Sunnah”
If we follow the Sunnahs of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), we can easily practice what we preach. Our Prophet was the source of guidance for everyone. How so many Non-Muslims became Muslims was the consequence of his actions.
It is narrated by `Ata’ bin Yasar:
“Ibn Abbas performed ablution and washed his face (in the following way): He ladled out a handful of water, rinsed his mouth, and washed his nose with it by putting in water and then blowing it out. He then, took another handful of water and did like this (gesturing) joining both hands, and washed his face, took another handful of water, and washed his right forearm. He again took another handful of water and washed his left forearm, and passed wet hands over his head and took another handful of water and poured it over his right foot (up to his ankles) and washed it thoroughly and similarly took another handful of water and washed thoroughly his left foot (up to the ankles) and said, “I saw Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) performing ablution in this way.”
The fact is that people follow what we do, not what we say. For example, children learn by observing their elders, not by their verbal commandments, but by their actions, so we should always make sure that we are following the right path. Of course, polite advice is thoughtful, but our words mean nothing if our actions are opposite.
“Let your dreams be bigger than your fears, your faith stronger than your feelings, and your actions louder than your words!”
