If you drove a car with the brakes on what would happen? You never go with full speed the brakes would offer resistance. Your car would overheat and break down. If it didn’t break down, the resistance would pressure the engine. To get to your destination, you would have to make one of two alternative options. You could either press the accelerator harder, and risk damage, or release the brakes to form the car go faster. This analogy is that a good parallel to life because many of us undergo life with emotional brakes on. What are the brakes? They are the factors that stop us from achieving success, fear procrastination, lack of pride, etc. The way to release your emotional brakes is by building a positive attitude, realizing your self-worth, and accepting responsibility.
Success involves taking calculated risks. Risk-taking does not mean gambling foolishly and behaving irresponsibly. People sometimes make mistakes and show harsh behavior. They find anything with negative results and blame it on bad luck.
“Once someone asked a farmer if he had planted wheat for the season. The farmer replied, “NO. I was afraid it wouldn’t rain.” the person asked, “Did you plant corn?” The farmer said, “No, I was afraid that insects would eat the corn.” Then the person asked. “What did you plant?” The farmer said, “Nothing. I played it safe.”
What is the moral of the story? Risk-taking is a part of life. Many times, not taking risks could become the greatest risk. People, who risk nothing, do nothing, don’t have anything, and become nothing. Indecision is habit-forming and contagious. Many opportunities are lost because of indecision. Take risks, but don’t gamble. Risk-takers move ahead with their eyes open.
Fear is often real or imaginary. Fear makes people do strange things. It primarily comes from a scarcity of understanding. To measure in fear is to measure in an emotional lock-up. Fear paralyzes and immobilizes people. Fear ends with insecurity, lack of confidence, and procrastination. Although fear can ruin relationships and health. Some fears are often described, others can only be felt, and fear results in anxiety which in turn results in irrational thinking and this actually sabotages our ability to unravel the issues. The traditional response to fear is an escape. Escape puts us during a temperature and reduces the impact of fear temporarily while the cause remains. Imaginary fears magnify the matter. Fear can get out of hand and destroy pleasure and relationships. Consider fear as meaning FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.
Self-doubt and risk fear can only be replaced by success, and success is like a baking cake. Unless you’ve got just the proper recipe, it’s not getting to work. The ingredients must be of the best quality and within the right proportions. You cannot over-bake it or undercook it. Once you have the correct recipe, with practice and learning from the occasional mishap, it becomes a lot easier.
